The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is another form of personality test. Should you choose to complete this personality test for course credit, please complete the following:
- Read about and take the MBTI here.
- What is the MBTI? How do you arrive at your "type?"
- What type describes you? (e.g., ISTJ, ESTP, etc)? What type of personality does this type describe?
- Do you think these results accurately describe you?
- If you also took the Big Five personality test (here), how do the results from the MBTI compare? Which is more accurate, in your opinion?
And just for fun for all you Harry Potter fans - find out what character shares the same MBTI profile with you here.
The MBTI, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is a questionnaire used to determine a person’s personality type. The MBTI was created to make the psychological types described by C.G. Jung easier to understand and apply to people’s lives. To get your “type” you go through and answer a variety of questions that will help categorize you.
ReplyDeleteMy MBTI is ESFP, this personality type is described as outgoing, friendly, and accepting. They are people who love life, people, and material comforts. They enjoy working with others to achieve goals. These people use common sense and have a realistic approach to all things.
These results I believe are relatively accurate for me. I am relatively outgoing and I love being around and helping people. Although the description states that this type of person is spontaneous, I am not individually spontaneous but I will be spontaneous when pushed. Some things are more accurate for me than others but in general the MBTI does a relatively good job of describing me.
The MBTI is a personality test, in which individuals are given four letters which represent the percentage of which they are closer to introversion versus extroversion, sensing versus intuition, feeling over thinking, and perceiving over judging. I took the test and fell under ISFP, meaning I prefer introversion over extroversion, sensing over intuition, feeling over thinking, and perceiving over judging.
ReplyDeleteIndividuals with ISFP tend to be “quiet, friendly, sensitive and kind. Enjoy the present moment what’s going on around them. Like to have their own space and work within their own time frame, Loyal and committed to their values and to people who are important to them. Dislike disagreements and conflicts, do not force their opinions or values on others”.
I think these results describe me quite accurately. I wouldn’t disagree with any of the characteristics they have listed. I have taken this test before, and cannot remember if my results have remained the same, or changed. I certainly enjoy having my own space and working within my own time frame, as strict deadlines do nothing but stress me out. I also took the big-5 personality test, and think the MBTI more accurately describes my personality.
The MBTI is a personality type test can somewhat precisely describe a person just by having them answer a few short questions about themselves and their thoughts or feelings. A short statement or question is asked and then two words describing the differing sides. After receiving letters for answering each of the questions you put them all together and each of the four traits make up a type of personality. My personality type was INFP which shows someone who is idealistic, loyal to their values and to people who are important to them. Want an external life that is congruent with their values. Curious, quick to see possibilities, can be catalysts for implementing ideas. Seek to understand people and to help them fulfill their potential. Adaptable, flexible, and accepting unless a value is threatened. I think for the most part this does describe me fairly well. By only having 4 different traits, they can come up with a good explanation when putting each of them next to one another and combining their meanings into one type. Both tests were somewhat similar in results but different traits express different values and sides in a person. I think the MBTI is more accurate because the traits have more depth and meaning than that of the BIg Five.
ReplyDeleteThe MBTI is a personality test that really focuses on what a person’s perception on life consists of. A person’s perception can affect how they react to any given situation. Through four different categories a person picks one of the two they think they are. With just these four categories they come up with a profile, or a Personality type for this person. My personality was esfp, which is outgoing, friendly, lovers of life, and learn best by trying a new skill with other people, I think this fits me right on the dot. I also took the Big Five personality test and got close to the same answers. I like the Big Five because if you answer them truthfully it gives you a better picture about yourself. I think with most of these test people want to answer how they want view themselves. But sometimes how you want to be and how someone is can be different. I have taken many of these test and every time I think it fits me better and better as I grow up and find out what is important to me.
ReplyDeleteThe MBTI makes theories of psychological types understandable and useful. The main point of the theory is that the random variation of behavior is in fact consistent due to basic differences in the ways people use perception and judgment. I personally follow the “ESTP” classification more than any other. This personality type is described as flexible, tolerant, energetically solving problems, and learning best through doing. I believe these descriptions fit my personality very well.
ReplyDeleteThe MBTI is a personality test that helps determine a persons personality type. My personality type was INFP, which I believe is pretty accurate. I am very loyal to my values and those in my life. I am also quick to see possibilities and fit various other characteristics of my given personality type. I think it's really interesting that they placed me with a personality type that is very similar to how I would describe myself based off of 4 simple categories.
